Our Company

An interview with Infinite Adventures

How did you start in the Overlanding industry?

We (Dave and Nat) both love travelling. A few years ago Dave was working on his PHD at university (after he travelled as a tour leader all over Northern America) when he decided there was more out there and took a job with an overland company to lead trips around the world.

I (Nat) initially wanted to take only a half year career break from my project management job and went backpacking in West Africa. But after I felt the freedom of the road there was no way I wanted to go back to my old office job. I applied for a job as a tour leader and driver for a big overland company. That’s how Dave and I met: driving overland trucks and both sharing our passion for travelling and leading group tours.

Why did you set up Infinite Adventures?

Spending the last few years working around the world, we realized what the North American travel market was missing: Overland Vehicles. Most of the adventure companies in the US are running around with 15 seat passenger vans and trailers attached. We thought: Why not build a vehicle that can has more space and is more like a “home” for everyone? With bigger windows that roll down and enable perfect wildlife and landscape shots?

Why did you choose to concentrate on North America?

One reason I just mentioned: The North America adventure travel market has hardly any overland vehicles and we think it’s also a perfect way of travelling in a western country. North America has many beautiful remote places to visit and long distances to cover (especially in Alaska where there are still many gravel roads). Why not do it more comfortably in a vehicle that has more space and is perfectly equipped for being outdoors and camping? We will also run trips from Las Vegas all the way up to Calgary and Anchorage and cover all the great National Parks…
Additionally, Dave was lucky enough to be stationed in Alaska, “The Last Frontier” when he was leading trips throughout North America and fell in love with this place. It was every tour leader’s goal to get a season up there. With the amazing scenery, activities, animals and locals, there’s never a dull moment. Yes, sometimes the weather is a bit unpredictable (you get everything from rain and chilly temperatures to sun and quite warm weather), but if you’re prepared with your gear it’s an epic adventure with daylight up to 20 hours!

Why should people travel with Infinite Adventures?

If you like outdoor activities and nature and want to explore the amazing culture, landscape and animals of Alaska or concentrate on the beautiful National Parks in the Western US like Yellowstone, Arches National Park, the Monument Valley or hike along one of the seven wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon, I believe going on an overland trip is the best way to do it. You will be right out in the wilderness with our remodelled school bus being self-sufficient and enjoying evenings round the campfire. We are a small company and are leading all of the trips ourselves. We absolutely love our job and as owners we will be flexible enough to make every trip a unique experience.

What are the advantages of travelling in a group?

In my opinion overlanding and the style of trip we offer have the advantage of both: individual and group travel. Overlanding-style trips offer the right mixture of meeting lots of like-minded people, but having the freedom to make your own choices and being involved in the adventure: You can get the camp fire started yourself if you like to but you can also rely on your tour leaders organizing a bunch of stuff which you don’t want to deal with on your holidays. And you not only get to know the culture of the country you are visiting but also get to know like-minded people from all over the world. I am in contact with many of my former passengers and even had “reunions” – travelling together for 24/7 bonds people!

Why go with us?

We love our job: Tour Leading and sharing unforgettable memories with like-minded travellers who usually become friends during the trips is what motivates us.

We believe that our itineraries are the right mixture of including the essentials and leaving enough space to explore: on your own or with us! Dave has spent multible seasons up in Alaska and knows the details: From telling the guys to grow their beards during the trip when exploring the local fishermen culture to spotting bears, moose or beavers even when they are hidden in the bushes (honestly, I don’t know how he does it!).

We are not ticking boxes and rushing from campsite to campsite. Our amazing overland vehicle gives us flexibility. If we find a beautiful place during the day and the weather is great we might decide for an extended lunch break and go for a short hike or just relax in the sun. If it is pouring down with rain we know where to find the visitor centre, a great cafe to hang out or the hidden local history museum.
